Patent Office Publishes Proposed Rules for First-Inventor-to-File System

Today, the United States Patent & Trademark Office published proposed rules for implementing the new first-inventor-to-file system for establishing priority to inventions. The America Invents Act changed the invention priority system in the United States from a first-to-invent to a first-to-file system. The new proposed Patent Office regulations and Patent Examiner Guidelines are intended to carry out the change in the law.

This proposed rules and the new priority system reinforce how important it is for inventors to file patent applications promptly.
